American President Barrack Obama recently announced launching of a new program called the HOME STAR program which would cut down on the energy consumption incurred in the country. According to the President the program would make millions of families across the nation energy efficient. It would make the country less reliant on fossil fuels. This program would flood the bruised construction job market with jobs. With the help of the program home owners would cash incentives on installing energy saving appliances in their home.

The HOME STAR program would also benefit different kind of vendors ranging from building material sellers, home improvement stores, energy saving equipment technicians, home appliance producers and sellers who would sell their services to the householders for a discount. The service providers in turn would be compensated by the federal government. Home owners who take the energy saving effort can avail 50% discount on the cost of every upgrade costing up to fifteen hundred dollars. Refund of a maximum amount of three thousand dollars who go for a complete home retrofit.

Once the installations in a home are made then they will be inspected by quality assurance providers so that the home owners get the discounts they are eligible for. As part of the HOME STAR program financial support will be given to low income householders who wish to go for retrofitting by the state governments. The net energy reduction which will result from this program will equal the power generated by three thermal power plants put together annually.

In the month of June the House of Representatives passed an energy conservation bill known as the HOME STAR ENERGY PROGRAM. This program is intended to jump start the drooping economy to full charge. In tandem with the bill six billion dollars have been sanctioned for energy saving retrofits. This money will be able to finance home improvisations of close to three million households and provide employment opportunities to thousands of skilled technicians across the country.

It is forecasted that HOME STAR ENERGY PROGRAM will reduce the energy bills by approximately nine billion dollars by 2020. To kick start retrofitting a list of 13 retrofits has been made which make the homeowner who takes the up these projects eligible for the incentives. Each of these projects has certain eligibility requisites along with fixed rebate amounts.

Some of the common retrofits are air sealing with a maximum refund amount of fifteen hundred dollars. Attic insulation is another retrofit with a maximum refund amount of a thousand dollars and it covers insulation of complete accessible attic area. Duct sealing and replacement is one more with a refund value of thousand dollars.
